If you are wondering how many fitted crib sheets you need to buy for your baby, my answer would be “you can never have enough crib sheets.”
If you are on a tight budget or you simply are a minimalist, I would recommend that you have at least 3-4 sheets for your baby’s crib.
If you don’t mind spending some money and you really just want to be prepared then I would recommend you buy 5-6 fitted crib sheets to start with.
First time parents may be wondering why I recommend having so many crib sheets but trust me that after going through 4 babies you will be thankful that you have those extra sheets.
The nice thing about crib sheets is that, you can find plenty of choices (both plain colored and fun patterns) for under $10 -$15.
Babies Are Messy – Be Prepared with Extra Crib Sheets
The number one reason behind having all those crib sheets is because babies are messy. You will find that they drool, spit up and leak bodily fluids all over.
I had one baby who had reflux for the first 5 months of her life and she spit up everywhere the minute you laid her down. Her sheets would be soaked within 2 minutes of laying her down in her crib and would have to be changed all the time, multiple times a day.
Even if you don’t have a baby who has reflux, normal babies tend to spit up a lot as well. Not only that but diapers tend to leak especially during the night time.
There is nothing worse than your baby have a horrible blow out diaper that leaks all over and not having any clean crib sheets to put on the mattress. This is why it is important to have at least one extra sheet clean at all times just in case that is the night the diaper leaks all over the place.
New parents tend to be sleep deprived and sometimes laundry tends to get backed up especially in those early newborn days. If you have plenty of spare crib sheets you don’t have to worry as much about making sure you do laundry everyday to keep up with all the changes.
Another thing to keep in mind is that along with the extra crib sheets you will also want to have an extra waterproof crib mattress cover as well. These help to protect the crib mattress from any type of liquid and can really come in handy.
Although the main reason why I tell new parents to stock up on crib sheets, another reason why I like to have some different sheets on hand is just simply to change things up once in a while.
As my babies got older and I didn’t have to change the crib sheets almost every day I still liked to change them often just to give the crib a different look.
This is definitely not a must-do, especially if you are on a tight budget, but I do have to admit that it is pretty fun switching the sheets around with all the cute designs and pretty colors that sheets come in nowadays.
Don’t be afraid to spend some money towards buying fitted crib sheets for your baby. You will definitely get use out of them and most likely be really thankful that night your baby has a horrible blow out diaper at 2 a.m. and you are prepared with extra sheets so you can go back to sleep.
