Some parents don’t realize that a toddler bed is basically just a bed frame that utilizes a crib mattress. Instead of being completely enclosed in like a crib, the toddler bed has at least one side open so the child can get in and out of bed without having to climb over anything.
This means that you can use crib bedding for a toddler bed.
Always check the dimension size of your bedding but if you do compare you will see that crib sheets and toddler bed sheets will measure the same.
If you are looking to save money, there is nothing wrong with using the same fitted crib sheets and blankets you used for your baby’s crib on the toddler bed. They will fit the mattress with no problem and this allows you to save up some money to spend on a twin bedding set for when your toddler outgrows their toddler bed.
On the other hand, some parents choose to go with new bedding for a toddler bed so that the child can have not only a fitted sheet but also a top sheet and a bigger comforter to keep them warm. This is definitely an option if you don’t mind spending more money but it is not necessary.
A toddler doesn’t really need the top sheet yet if you have their blankets over the top of them. You will notice that most toddlers tend to still sleep in odd positions and move around a lot at night so a top sheet may just get in the way.
Being that you will most likely use the same mattress for your toddler bed, it makes the most sense to use the same sheets especially if you haven’t changed the look of the room and the crib bedding still goes with the nursery theme.
You can always save some money and simply re-use your crib bedding and add a nice toddler sized blanket or comforter on top instead of buying a whole new bedding set.
It all depends on how much money you want to spend and what your plans are for your little one’s room if you want to use the crib bedding for the toddler bed or get something new for your big boy or girl.
